Description
Annual Project Proposal Department of Computer Science 1. Project Name ShebaHub – Developing a platform to connect Sheba Medical Center researchers with students and interns for collaborative studies and projects – Front-end. 2. Names of the facilitators Academic: Eran Katsav Clinical: Dr Maayan Gilboa 3. Background and rationale for the project What led to the project, why it is worthwhile to do this type of project, and what is its contribution to the field in which it is engaged. Researchers in the medical field spend up to 50% of their time on repetitive, non-specialized tasks that could be delegated, while approximately 55% of medical students lack sufficient background and confidence to engage in research projects. This leads to missed research opportunities and limited mentorship capacity. Sheba-Hub is a smart digital platform designed to bridge this gap by matching experienced researchers with motivated medical students. The goal is to streamline research progress while simultaneously enhancing student education and participation in clinical research. The project participants will develop the platform’s front-end—a responsive web application. 4. Project Goals What are the goals you want to achieve in this project and what are the (hoped-for) outcomes of the project? The platform will feature customizable mentor and student profiles, a matching algorithm based on interest, availability, and skillset, and a rating system to improve future matching. Furthermore, it will allow flexible reward options such as academic credit, financial compensation, or co-authorship, depending on the project type and institutional policies. To ensure privacy and regulatory compliance, the system will follow HIPAA standards and may be adapted to local equivalents. Mentor Match will operate across a web-based interface and dedicated Android and iOS mobile applications, improving accessibility for users across institutions and locations. The project will be developed in two stages, where in the first stage and during the first semester a complete system with the ability to define profiles and connect researchers and students will be developed, and in the next stage in the second semester we will add advanced components such as the reward system, chat, etc. The client-side will be developed with React by building a fully mobile-optimized, responsive website. 5. Technologies & Tools Required to Develop the Project: • React • React DOM • JavaScript / TypeScript • Vite (for project scaffolding) • React Router (for client-side routing) • css • shadcn/Tailwind CSS • GIT • Visual Studio Code 6. What internal capabilities do the facilitators bring from within the company as part of the project? Sheba Hospital's academic and clinical advisors will contribute dedicated expertise to the field, including an in-depth understanding of the needs of mentors and students, the workflows of research projects, and familiarity with possible compensation systems. They will assist in characterizing the system, defining the matching logic, classification models, and determining evaluation criteria. 7. What complementary abilities are required to be expressed by the academic advisor in the framework of the project? The academic advisor will guide the project methodology, supervise the technical development, and assist in defining evaluation metrics for the matching algorithm, user feedback, and success indicators. 0545595785 Maayan.Gilboa@sheba.health.gov.il Inbal.shafran@sheba.health.gov.il anatberko@gmail.com
