Description
Smart Parking System Introduction This project aims to design and implement a Smart Parking System that uses real-time monitoring, automation, and modern web technologies to improve parking efficiency. The system will use LPR (License Plate Recognition) cameras and above-space sensors to detect vehicle presence and provide availability status through a user interface. Data will be collected via LoRa-based hardware infrastructure and processed through a backend system. The front end and backend will be developed using React.js and Node.js with MongoDB as the primary database. Background Urban centers face increasing challenges with parking management, including congestion, inefficient space use, and lack of visibility for users. Traditional parking solutions often involve manual monitoring or basic sensor integration with limited system intelligence. With the advent of IoT technologies and AI-based imaging, smarter solutions are now feasible. In this project, a sensor-based parking system will be developed. It will include two LPR (License Plate Recognition) cameras for tracking vehicle entries and exits, and individual sensors above each parking cell to detect availability. The system will integrate with a charging mechanism, allowing users to pay for their parking usage. LoRa communication will provide a low-power, long-range data transfer method between the sensors and the backend. Project Scope • Hardware Integration - Deploy two LPR cameras at the entry and exit points of the parking facility. - Install LoRa-connected sensors above each parking cell to detect vehicle presence. - Connect the system to a charging/payment mechanism (credit card, mobile pay). • Software Development - Build a real-time frontend dashboard in React.js for users and administrators. - Develop a Node.js backend server to handle API routes, parking logic and payment. - Store and manage all data using MongoDB(cars logs, parking status, transactions). • System Integration - Design communication modules to receive sensor data via LoRa into the backend system. - Use LPR camera data to identify vehicles and associate them with user accounts and. Student Requirements • Familiarity in JavaScript. • Familiarity with React.js and Node.js. • Familiarity with MongoDB. • Understanding of REST API design. • Teamwork. • Independent learning. • High motivation.
